Zakynthos Cultural Summer

The Peripheral Module of Zakynthos hosts cultural evenings with a rich program from Zante bands that are now well-established in the collective consciousness of the citizens of our island, for this summer.

Below we present you the program of this year’s summer events for August:

On 08/02/2014 at Kiliomenos the 3rd Bread Festival is organized by the Cultural Association Melissiotisses.

On 06/08/2014 at Solomou Square, a concert of  Xenia Melody, is organized by the Cultural Association ‘Apodimoi’.

On 08/10/2014 Lithakia (Aghios Sostis), will hold the event Barcarole, organized by the Cultural Association of Lithakia.
On the same day, in Skoulikado, a lecture is organized by the Cultural Association of Skoulikado.

On 08/14/2014 at Lagadakia Square will be held a memory night by the Cultural Association of Lagadaki.

On 17/08/2014 at Sarakinado Square, will take place the Celebration of Black Currant by the Association of Sarakinado.

On 08/19/2014 at Zakynthos Theatre a concert will be held by the Association ‘Flower of the Levant’.

Also on 19.08.2014 and 20.08.2014 in the Hall of Dioikitirio,a World Meeting is organized by the Conference of Zakynthos Expatriates.

Furthermore, on 08/20/2014 atthe  Open Air Theatre of Zakynthos a speech will take place by the Association of Bartzoletatides.

Finally, on 8/21/2014 at Sarakinado Square a concert is organized by D. Giannoulis.

BOCHALI

Etes-vous prêt pour une promenade dans le plus beau quartier de la ville de Zante? Le vieux quartier de Bochali, à 2 km du centre. Vous pourrez admirer la vue panoramique sur le port, le village d’Argassi et la baie de Laganas. Vous marcherez dans des ruelles avec des maisons anciennes et des cafés où la vue est incroyable… Encore plus haut, au milieu d’une végétation luxuriante, vous pourrez visiter la forteresse de Zante, où se trouvait la capitale de l’île sous domination vénitienne.

Le Parc Marin National

Pourquoi le premier Parc marin national du pays se trouve-t-il à Zante? Parce que les eaux autour de l’île sont fréquentées par les Caretta caretta, espèce rare de tortues de mer. Leur point de départ est la baie de Libye ou bien l’Adriatique du Nord pour arriver à Zante, non pas pour leurs vacances, mais pour déposer leurs œufs sur les plages de Iérakas, Daphni, Kalamaki, Marathonissi et surtout sur celle de Sékania, à l’est de Laganas. Chut! Si vous avez la chance de les voir pondre, admirez ce spectacle naturel en toute discrétion.

Certification Accessibility Pass

With the presence of Olga Kefalogianni, Tourism Minister of Greece, the official launching event of Accessibility Pass took place at the Athenaeum InterContinental Hotel, Athens, on 18 June 2014. Representatives of bodies of people with disabilities, senior citizens and the hotel industry attended the event.
Accessibility Pass is a universal certification scheme that classifies hotels’ accessibility level, based on their infrastructure, services and personnel skills.
Accessibility Pass aims to offer a compilation of useful and reliable information relating to certified hotels’ accessibility, which makes it easy for people with accessibility needs, i.e. people with motor, visual, hearing or cognitive disabilities, as well as senior citizens to make an informed choice of hotels that best suits their needs.
Eleon Grand Resort is listed as one of hotels that meet the above standards for easier accessibility, receiving a certificate of distinction.

History of Giostra Di Zante

Giostra is one of the oldest events known which takes place during the Zakynthian Carnival. Along with ball dancing, which was mainly held within the two main halls of (Romianiko and Lombardiano) and the well known “Omilies” better known today as street theatre, where locals performed in converted open-air theatres, these were the most common forms of entertainment during carnival period on our reputable Island.
It was a competition in which the competitors were mounted and took part for the chance to win the prize. First prize being a silver sword and a pair of silver spurs for second place and to honor the maiden in which they chose to compete for.
